Important results from the project
The project has made significant progress in the development and testing of 5G and edge computing solutions for the mining industry. The developed solutions are used to increase safety, productivity and autonomy in mining environments. We have tested and demonstrated advanced solutions, including sensors and 3D visualizations, that are connected to 5G networks underground in Boliden´s mine in Kankberg outside Skellefteå.
Expected long term effects
Swedish industry together with collaborating academia and institutes have developed innovations and new knowledge in an important area for the mining industry. The results are, in part, also applicable in other sectors, such as other process industries, the manufacturing industry, the energy sector, physical infrastructure, etc. In a longer perspective, the solutions developed by participating parties can lead to increased competitiveness and new business, both nationally and in export markets.
Approach and implementation
The project has been conducted in close collaboration between the partners. The work has been organized in five work packages with a clear division of labor and well-defined areas of responsibility, which has proven to work well. Routines for management and reporting have worked well, as has the process for change management. The schedule has been followed with exception for the pilot demonstrations that were affected by external factors. Dissemination of results has been a prioritized activity.
