Important results from the project
2D-TECH is Sweden’s powerhouse for 2D material research and innovation with focus on automotive, battery development, aerospace, electronics and packaging sectors. It bridges academia and industry for ground-breaking innovation and world-class research. 2D-TECH’s results clearly support its goals, as evidenced by >120 publications in high-impact journals, 6 patents and 3 spin-offs. With >30 PhDs/postdocs trained, 2D-TECH also educates and inspires to shape a sustainable future with 2D materials.
Expected long term effects
2D-TECH is evolving into an internationally attractive hub for 2D materials research and innovation. 2D-TECH activities will continue to create business opportunities with 2D materials and expand into key sectors such as health, energy and circular design. As such, 2D-TECH will continue to transfer knowledge in 2D materials to industry, and contribute to highly educated, well-trained labor force with high competence in 2D materials.
Approach and implementation
2D-TECH is coordinated by Chalmers University of Technology and encompasses 21 industrial partners across the whole value chain. Research projects have been designed to match the needs of Swedish industry. The work in the centre is organized into four research & innovation lines: 1) multifunctional composites, 2) sustainable energy, 3) electronics, and 4) emerging materials. Our multidisciplinary research agenda has been key to outstanding science and innovation with 2D materials. 2D Tech Phase 2 is approved under Vinnova number 2019-00068
