Funding from Vinnova SEK 985 000
Project duration November 2024 - November 2025
Status Ongoing
Venture Calls within the Hållbar Industri area

Purpose and goal

The project aims to assess the feasibility of a research and development initiative focusing on engaging the local community of Slite in the ongoing industrial transformation toward sustainability. The goal is to ensure that residents actively shape physical and social values in their community, promoting inclusion, resilience, and environmental responsibility. Through workshops and interviews, the project will establish a foundation for a broad dialogue aligned with local needs and aspirations.

Expected effects and result

The project anticipates outcomes that include developing a locally tailored participatory process for envisioning Slite’s transition to a sustainable and fossil-free future. By fostering dialogue among stakeholders, it aims to create shared goals and address potential conflicts. The results are expected to enhance social cohesion, provide long-term value for the local community and industry, and generate transferable methodologies that can inspire similar industrial transitions in other regions.

Planned approach and implementation

The study will follow a plan divided into five work packages: project management, a review of participatory methods, workshops, interviews, and synthesis. Stakeholders will engage in workshops to build trust and outline key issues, while interviews will collect diverse community perspectives. Findings will be analyzed to design a roadmap for future projects, ensuring that the community´s voices are integrated into formal planning processes and establishing frameworks for broader participation.
