The future is coming to visit Universeum
The future is coming to visit Universeum
Published: 20 January 2025
How can we become co-creators of the future? Universeum and Vinnova invite you to a vernissage on January 31st where 28 possible futures within the mobility and food system will be showcased. It is a meeting place to experience and discuss possible sustainable solutions for the future and how we can get there.

See, hear and feel the future
During a day at Universeum, there is the opportunity to see, hear and feel the future with a focus on the mobility and food system.
Step into a recruiting office in 2035 where health problems mean that virtually no one is in good enough shape to defend the country. Experience a school cafeteria in 2060 and comment on what you see. Jump into the transportation of the future and feel the sensation of driving around without a driver.
A total of 28 future prototypes with funding from Vinnova are participating. The goal is to create a meeting place around the prototypes where actors from different parts of society – researchers, companies and citizens themselves – can meet for dialogue, knowledge exchange and engagement around common societal challenges.

Why should we be interested in the future?
Society faces major challenges where ecological, social and economic factors are intertwined. Our ability to anticipate and adapt to the future is crucial. People need to be able to navigate and act in a complex world where different values often clash when making decisions about the future. It is important to create conditions for reflection on solutions to both current and future challenges, something that promotes both democracy and sustainable development.
What is a future prototype?
A future prototype is an object from the future, visiting the present, which aims to create thoughts, feelings and discussion about what kind of society we want in the future and how we best get there, or what we should do to avoid ending up there.
Are you curious about speculative design?
Speculative design is a method that helps us work in a structured way to explore, investigate and imagine possible futures. How can we use speculative design in practice? In connection with the opening, Vinnova invites you to a seminar on the theme.
