Billion SEK investment to speed up the digitization of Swedish industry
A billion SEK investment is being launched within the research and innovation programme Advanced digitalisation which will accelerate the pace and strengthen Sweden's position in innovation and industrial development. Four key areas are identified that will be in focus.
Programmet Avancerad digitalisation is a partnership between the state and business where parties such as Ericsson, Saab, AB Volvo, Teknikföretagen and Vinnova work together to ensure that Sweden remains a leading force in industrial development and technological innovation.
At the same time that the USA and China are driving digital development, Europe and Sweden also need to increase the pace. During 2025, investments of up to one billion kroner are planned in four key areas.
- We need to increase the pace of the transition to a digital and sustainable future in Swedish industry. With four priority areas, the program can offer greater and broader funding opportunities that reach more actors. When the industry concretizes its needs, we can jointly drive forward the right efforts and results, says Cecilia Sjöberg, head of division industrial development at Vinnova.
Four crucial areas for the future
After needs analyzes from over 50 Swedish industrial companies and representatives from several important industries, academia and the public sector, the parties in the program have arrived at four critical areas that are the focus of future efforts:
- Applied AI and secure data flows for more innovative solutions
Artificial intelligence and qualitative data will be decisive for the industrial processes of the future. It is important that the industry gets its data and data flows in order in order to apply reliable AI. Common and standardized methods are needed to build industrial data flows between industries and actors. Through investments in this area, we want to see more smart and automated solutions with the goal that Swedish industry becomes competitive by applying AI. - Stable and safe electrification for industry's next step
If the industry is to be able to gear up the digital transition, increased electricity flexibility is required. Efforts in this area should contribute to ensuring stable, cost-effective and safe access to sustainable electricity when it is needed and where it is needed. This is crucial for the industry's future development. - Strengthened digital infrastructure for industrial application
In order for Swedish industry to be able to develop world-leading digital solutions based on the latest communication infrastructure, access to environments where it is possible to innovate, test and develop solutions is required. Fast and secure digital infrastructure is a basic prerequisite for industrial innovation and growth. With several efforts in the area, we want to strengthen the industry's ability to use the latest technology for seamless and secure communication. - Excellence through applied learning at the forefront of technology
World-leading competence in advanced digitalisation requires powerful efforts to accelerate learning and develop collaborations and ground-breaking technologies.
