Vinnova supports incubators through the national incubator program. Following an evaluation, the number of incubators in the program is now increased from 24 to 29. The newly added incubators are Science Park Gotland, Brewhouse Göteborg, Movexum AB in Gävle, Stiftelsen Dalarna Science Park in Borlänge and SSE Business Lab AB in Stockholm.

Swedish incubators hold high quality and several of them are ranked among the best in the world, for example in UBI Globals's international rankings of incubators. They play an important role in the regions as an engine for innovation and innovation in business.

- Several incubators have in recent years further professionalized their support for companies and therefore we are now increasing the number of incubators in the program. For the first time, we have an incubator that focuses on cultural industries while also seeing new types of incubator companies that are driven by social innovation, for example. It is also gratifying that gender equality and sustainability have become priority development areas for the incubators, says Carl Naumburg, who leads Vinnova's incubator program.

In addition to financial support, the incubators receive a special quality stamp, which is important for their opportunities to obtain funding from other actors.

A total of SEK 87 million per year is distributed to 29 incubators during the period 2021-2024 through the call for proposal “ Support to start-ups via excellent incubators” in the incubator program.

In addition, as a result of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Vinnova has allocated an additional 33 million to be used during 2020 for verification activities in companies within the national incubator program.
