Partnership Programmes is one of VINNOVA's strategic areas. Industry partnership programmes has gone through several rounds since 1994. The common theme in all partnership programmes is that they are adapted to the needs of a specific sector.
Agreements on an overall framework for programme scope and implementation have been signed with the government and companies or sector representatives. Normally, at least 50% co-financing is required from companies.
In 2005 a special investment of SEK 1 billion was made in partnership programmes, of which VINNOVA was allocated some SEK 750,000,000 to distribute. This programme has concluded but a number of projects will keep running over the next few years.
VINNOVA has partnership programmes with industry in the areas of forestry and timber, transport, IT and telecommunications, mining, steel, bioscience and financial market research. These programmes provide funding for research, development, construction of knowledge centres, demonstrators and testbeds and aim to produce innovations in areas of importance to Sweden.
VINNOVA has 2012 introduced a new type of partnership programme, called strategic innovation programmes.
